Sequential win

Sequential win allows you to create a promotion that rewards every Nth customer in a chronological sequence of transactions. For each sequential win promotion, transactions are counted, and the configured Nth transaction receives the reward.

The transaction counter increments only for transactions that fulfill all the promotion conditions. For example, if the condition is set to reward every 100th customer who spends more than $10 on items with a discount of 5%, only transactions that meet the spending condition will participate in the sequential win and increment the transaction counter.

Sequential win works at an enterprise level. Transactions from any store where the promotion is active will participate in the sequential win.

To configure the sequential win action, follow these steps:

  • Navigate to the Actions & Rewards section, click on the Action Type drop-down, and select 'Sequential' as an Action Type.

  • Enter the value of 'N' to configure the winning transaction in the sequence.

    Sequential

  • For the entire duration of the promotion, by default, there is no limit to the number of wins that are granted. Uncheck Unlimited Wins to set a maximum number of wins.

For example, if a promotion is set to reward every 100th customer with a win limit of 5, then the promotion runs for 500 eligible customers, offering rewards for the 100th, 200th, 300th, 400th, and 500th transactions. The promotion stops generating rewards once 5 wins are granted.

  • Click Save to configure the condition.

Sequential win summary

You can view the sequential win summary on the Promotion Summary page. The summary appears only after transactions start triggering the promotion. A new promotion will not display the summary until transactions trigger the promotion.

The redemption summary shows 'X wins out of Y transactions to date', indicating that Y transactions participated in the sequential win promotion and X were rewarded.

summary

In the above example, there were a total of 4 transactions, out of which 2 resulted in wins.

Sequential win revoke

Sequential win revoke occurs when a transaction that is supposed to win a reward (Nth transaction) is discarded or fails to meet the promotion conditions. As a result, the reward is not granted for this transaction. Once it is determined that the current transaction will not win, the reward is granted to the next eligible transaction. However, the sequential series remains unaffected by the revocation.

Example: Consider a promotion that rewards every 100th transaction. If the 100th customer, who is supposed to win, takes 2 minutes to complete the transaction, but the transaction is eventually voided, the reward is not granted. During these 2 minutes, the 101st and 102nd transactions are completed. Therefore, the 103rd transaction, being the next eligible transaction, receives the reward. After the revoke, the next reward is still granted to the 200th transaction, and the series remains undisturbed.

Scenarios for sequential win revoke

Transaction discarded: A transaction intended to win the reward (Nth transaction) gets discarded due to being voided or cancelled.

Failed to meet conditions: A transaction initially satisfies the promotion conditions but subsequently fails to do so, particularly if items are removed from the cart.

Note: If the POS machine, loyalty engine, or store server fails during the evaluation of the Nth transaction’s sequential win, the revoke operation cannot occur. This is because the cloud services managing the instant win counters are not updated with the information that the transaction did not complete. As a result, the system assumes the win was rewarded, and the revoke does not occur.
